Woodbridge is a serious Bogey Round for me….in 2011 my GT4 Gearbox seized solid on the motorway en route, and last year I blew my drivetrain to pieces during the event.
So, leading up to the event I didn’t hold much hope…. And true to form, shit started to go wrong….. my road wheels were stolen from the celica in a burglary, and the Race truck needed extensive work to get it back on the road and reliable. It was managed thanks to Craigs hard work, and I got the truck back 48 hours before the round.
So on Saturday I was loading up. I nearly severed my thumb with the loading ramps on the truck….great start, and then the car was too low to get on the truck. Lol
I raised the suspension a bit, and in the end had to cut down some longer scaffolding boards to get her on.
After a lengthy drive over to Woodbridge at 55mph, and a lovely stay in Rose Cottage B&B, we were on for Round 2.
The track was awesome, three lengths of runway, integrated into it, and some nice technical areas. The surface of the track changes a lot, mostly abrasive tyre shredding stuff. Lol
I got my first couple of runs in, my times were fairly consistent, I was struggling with understeer on this surface, the car just kept pushing wide. Joe was struggling aswell in his Greddy Charged Gen 7. We decided to swap his AD08’s for 888’s after a couple of runs to dial it out, he seemed happy enough with the results of the change which was cool.
I managed my best time on run run 3 with a 2:24.85 which was a seriously balls out affair. Followed by a 2:25.00.
As is normal, I went a lot slower after lunch, always happens for some reason…. Irritating….
After my disheartening after lunch form I decided I would do some half time tweaks, I still haven’t got the geometry set up on my car properly, and I wasn’t going very well compared to the rest of the field, so I decided just to adjust the top mounts to put on as much camber as possible. Lol
I couldn’t believe the difference, the car just dug in, it dialled out the understeer almost completely. Unfortunately it was too little too late, and Although I ran a 2:24.97 on my last run, there was more to get out of the car.
I wasn’t disappointed though as this is notoriously a power track with all of the runways/straights, this is something I don’t have. lol, It also seems to suit rwd cars a lot better as well. It was an awesome day though and I really enjoyed myself, although a car killer its such awesome fun to drive at.
Some pics thanks to Saidro Photographic and thanks to Chris Girdler for the write up as always
